Merrymount Park Boardwalk Project

This project will need a '401 Water Quality Certificate' and a 'Chapter 91 Waterways License/Permit' among other permits.  When the applicant applies for these permits, they will post on MEPA's website as did the ENF. The notices will be found at the bottom of this page under 'PUBLIC NOTICES'.  We'll monitor this site to determine when these applications are submitted by Tighe & Bond; they too may require public comments.

7/8/21 UPDATE:  We attended the Quincy Conservation meeting on July 7, 2021 and the Merrymount Park Boardwalk/Bridge had indeed been withdrawn from the Conservation Commission.  Julie Sullivan, Environmental Scientist for the City of Quincy did present a proposal of a multi-year plan to control the Phragmite in the Blacks Creek area. She did state that this would be cutting only - no use of any herbicides.

Dear Quincy Residents:

We would like to inform you that the applicant has requested to withdraw the Merrymount Park Pedestrian Boardwalk/Bridge Project from the Quincy Conservation Committee's review process that was scheduled for July 7, 2021.

As far as we can gather a request can either be 'pulled' or 'withdrawn'. When a project is pulled, it means it will come back before Con Comm at a future date for review. When a project is withdrawn it means the the applicant will have to begin the process all over again.

The item continues to remain on the Quincy Conservation Commission's agenda on the city website and that is the reason we have waited to inform you that it was withdrawn.  We do not think this is the end for this project.

The Mayor stated in the Patriot Ledger article, "I'm not going to shove this down anyone's throat." He plans to take a step back and has asked David Murphy, Commissioner of Natural Resources to schedule community meetings to go over the entirety of the park's master plan so that "hopefully they will be open to the idea of opening (Pine Island) up to more people who can enjoy it, but if the will is not there we will look at other options."

We will not be changing our position on this project.  We have been against the idea of this project since we first heard about it in 2017.
